Rites of Spring

Marsha’s Cabin
March 20 and 21^st, 2005

It was an early Easter celebration, going to Marsha’s cabin for a late winter outing. We hoped to snowshoe up the road, and Steve Strode hoped for enough snow to get his new snowmobile (and our food and drink!) to the cabin

Our hopes were not totally unfounded, but there was barely enough snow covering the muddy road. We used our snowshoes a little bit, but found the going a bit easier without them. Luckily, Steve was able to maneuver his snowmobile through the dry spots, and arrived at the cabin without much trouble. Thanks, Steve, for leaving those St Provo Girls at the bottom of the driveway!

Even though is was a beautiful, warm hike in the sun, the cabin was still a welcome sight. Marsha’s done a lot of work inside, making it cozy & inviting. This is Val’s first visit, and she immediately falls in love with the place.

Michelle & Marsha are slated to fix the meals for the weekend, since Deborah & I took our turns at meal prep on the last camping trip. She & I settle in for a relaxing, no cook weekend.

Meanwhile, it’s started snowing outside. No matter, the party continues.

until we couldn’t see straight.

Later, we had a beautiful dinner – fresh salad, and lamb (beef) and potato casserole.

The next morning brought the first day of Spring, and it was snowing! What a beautiful view, as the clouds came up the canyon, bringing light & fluffy snow. We enjoyed breakfast, thanks to Marsha & Karen. Early afternoon, it was time to head back to civilization.

This time, snowshoes were a necessity. The road was blanketed with about 4-5 inches. It’s a good thing Howard was able to fix Marsha’s broken shoe!
